Indulging your request nandesu-san.
1. Ok, I'm here and you're here, so why not tell me a little about yourself? I won't bite I promise!
More than anything else these days I'm a theatre geek, it used to be merely a hobby, a method of escapism, but now it's my life. I started on a degree in technical theatre this Autumn and it's taking over my life in the best of ways.
I'm queer, and bi-gendered, and kinky which, all in all, make for a fairly interesting life. Especially when I have to explain one or the other to people.
2. Interesting! Now that I know you better we can proceed. When did you first discover you had a talent for writing?
I wouldn't say I ever discovered I have a 'talent' for writing. It's something I've done for years, but I've always had to work at it, to craft and re-craft my work. That said I doubt I'll ever stop writing, even if it's only little bits and pieces here and there.
3. Do you prefer stories, poems, commentaries, or would you consider yourself a 'jack of all trades'?
I prefer to just write, if things turn out to read like a piece of poetry then that's fine, if it turns out more prose-like then that's good too. I suppose, mainly, I'd consider myself a writer of prose, simply because that's the way my thoughts flow most easily onto paper.
4. When you write soemthing that you do share with others, is it for their benefit or your own? Simply put, do you write for others or for yourself?
To simply answer: Both. (Retaining your answer, my dear, for there is no better way of putting it)
5. Give me a small example of your writing A simple pararaph or verse will do nicely!
A snippet from my current w.i.p. -
Mackie had a smile like a shark and a rogue, all sinister charm and white teeth, but it was his eyes the ladies loved. Dark eyes that sparkled with a cynical humour and in his vanity he kohl lined them, making them seem darker again in his sharp, pale face. He lied with his eyes almost as well as he lied with a gesture, and that he did almost as well as he could lie with a deftly chosen word. With but a glance, he could make the ladies believe he loved no one but them, even though was widely known that Mack the Knife really loved only himself.
6. Artists and writers tend to think less of themselves than their fans do. Does their opinion have any kind of impact on your writing positive or negative?
I like to hear what people think of the way in which I write. I often get too close to a piece and find it hard to step back and think critically and objectively about it.
7. Is your writing geared towards the profession or simply as a hobby?
I have my chosen profession, and it's far more physical, more sociable that writing. I keep the written word as a hobby, a way of expressing emotions that I cannot speak about, or letting my thoughts and ideas fly free.
8. Have, or would you consider allowing an artists to add their artwork to your work if it would improve the overall effect on the viewer?
I would, indeed.
9. As I'm sure you are aware, there are a lot of budding artists out there. What advnice would you give them about potential critics of their work?
People will always criticise, you can never please all the people all the time. Write first for yourself, and only secondly for others, and listen to those who seek to offer constructive criticism. Never assume that you know all there is to know, someone will always have a piece of knowledge to share that you did not know before.
10. Now for the fun part. You get to tag 3 writers to torment just as I have tormented you!
Not tagging anyone, but by all means feel free to do this anyways.
